Choosing a Chef Jacket for a Commercial Kitchen

Our chef jackets are available in a variety of styles, featuring either zippers, press studs, or traditional button closures.
Temperature Control: For demanding Melbourne kitchens, the zipper jackets are designed with mesh side panels. This critical feature allows the skin to breathe and keeps staff cool during peak service.
Fit Profile: Visually, these zipper jackets provide a more tailored, fitted look, whereas our traditional button jackets offer a looser, straight fit.
We stock classic style kitchen pants featuring comfortable drawstrings, alongside sleek, tailored executive pants.
Executive Features: The executive styles feature a button-up front and a side adjustable buckle for a precise fit.
FOH Suitability: Because these executive pants deliver a highly professional look, they are perfectly suitable for staff working in front-of-house (FOH) environments as well.

Chef Aprons and Custom Logo Branding

Our apron inventory covers an extensive range of styles and colours. Options range from simple essentials, such as black waist aprons and chefs bib aprons, to smart-looking styles featuring extra detailing designed for FOH staff, bartenders, and baristas.
Branding Services: If your Melbourne venue requires custom branding, we can help organise this personalisation.
Order Requirements: There is no minimum order requirement for adding a name or a logo. The final cost will simply vary depending on the quantity, size, colour, and style of the personalisation you require.

frequently asked questions
Where can I buy chef uniforms in Melbourne?
Unicorn Kitchenware supplies chef uniforms and hospitality clothing from our Richmond showroom at 200 Victoria Street, serving venues across Melbourne. The range covers chef jackets in zipper, press stud and button styles, kitchen and executive pants, bib and waist aprons, chef hats and slip-resistant shoes. Staff can be sized in the showroom rather than guessing from a chart, which matters whether you are kitting out one new starter or a whole team.
Why are chef jackets double-breasted and long-sleeved?
The double-breasted front is a working feature rather than a style choice. It gives two layers of fabric across the chest and torso, which is the area most exposed to steam, oil splatter and radiant heat from a stovetop, and the panel can be reversed mid-service to hide a stain when a chef needs to step out front. Long sleeves protect the forearms for the same reason, which is why they persist despite the heat. Our zipper jackets keep that protection but add mesh side panels so the trade-off in a hot kitchen is not as brutal.
What footwear do commercial kitchen staff need?
Kitchen footwear needs to be fully enclosed, slip-resistant and comfortable enough for a ten-hour shift on hard floors. Enclosed uppers protect against spills and dropped knives, and a slip-resistant sole matters more in a commercial kitchen than almost anywhere else given the combination of water, oil and speed.
We stock ProChef clogs and kitchen shoes in the showroom so staff can try sizing before buying.
